We, the Performing artists of Japan, have resolved to organize Geidankyo -
The Nihon Geino Jitsuenka Dantai Kyogikai (Japan Council of Performers' Organizations), a nonprofit public organization to represent all of its member organizations and their individual members, for the purpose of improving the skills, social status and welfare of all performers, and to contribute to the betterment of Japanese culture.

The purposes of this public corporation will be to promote performing arts through the mutual cooperation of all associations formed by the artists, producers and technical staff, and by providing them study and training opportunities, and to elevate the status of performers by improving their working conditions, to contribute to the development of culture in this country.

Geidankyo was established for these purposes on December 7th 1965. In those days, preparations for the total revision of the Copyright Law of Japan were fully underway. Musei Tokugawa, the famous actor, become the first president of Geidankyo. In order to achieve its objectives, Geidankyo is involved in the following activities:

1. In-depth research and study on various issues in Japan and abroad concerning performing artists.
2. Exchanges and tie-ups with various organizations for the performing arts in Japan and abroad.
3. Training, public performances and lectures for the purpose of fostering new talent and improving existing talents and skills.
4. Awarding commendations and subsidies to organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promote the performing arts and culture
5. Administration of neighbouring rights for performers
6. Exercising royalty rights to secondary-use fees for commercial recordings on behalf of performers, including agreements on the amounts of fees, and their collection and distribution
7. Exercising royalty rights, or rights to remuneration , for commercial recording rentals, on behalf of performers, which include agreements on amounts, and collection and distribution of such royalties and remunerations
8. Activities to promote welfare benefits for performers
9. Providing information related to the performing arts and culture
